It's that time again -- the first round of non-descript Apple teaser banners have begun cropping up around San Francisco's Moscone Center, the site of next week's highly-anticipated Macworld Expo.

Sure to fuel rampant and widespread speculation for the next four days is a sprawling matte black banner hanging above the entrance to the south hall that reads simply:

"2008. There's something in the air."

Several other banners bearing the same phase are also visible through the windows of the south hall entrance.

Μερικές ώρες έμειναν μέχρι το αυριανό άνοιγμα των πυλών της Macworld 2008 και οι φήμες όπως κάθε φορά οργιάζουν.Οι γνωστές φωτογραφίες από τις αφίσες και τα διαφημιστικά που ετοιμάζουν οι εργάτες στις αίθουσες έχουν ήδη κυκλοφορήσει online δημιουργώντας ακόμα μεγαλύτερη αναστάτωση. Συνοπτικά τα περισσότερα blogs και sites γράφουν ότι η Apple μάλλον θα παρουσιάσει ένα νέο μικρό laptop με οθόνη μικρότερη των 12″ και SSD για αποθήκευση των δεδομένων.
Αρκετοί είναι και αυτοί που θέλουν να δούν το tablet που τόσα χρόνια ονειρεύονται αλλά ποτέ ο Steve Jobs δεν του έκανε την χάρη να ανακοινώσει στις προηγούμενες Macworld.

Αυτό που όλοι θεωρούν σχεδόν δεδομένο για αύριο είναι η επίσημη ανακοίνωση της υπηρεσίας iTunes για ενοικίαση / αγορά ταινιών. Προσωπικά δεν θα με άφηνε αδιάφορο και θα πρόσθετα ότι το iTunes θα έχει και άλλη μια αποκλειστικότητα: την διάθεση της μουσικής των Beatles. Εδώ μπορεί να μπει και ένα νέο Apple TV.

Η αναβάθμιση των desktops και laptops είναι ακόμα μια κατηγορία που μάλλον θα εστιάσει ο Jobs, γιατί η Intel έχει προχωρήσει σε σημαντικές αλλαγές και αναβαθμίσεις της αρχιτεκτονικής (Penryn) που θα επιτρέπει στην Apple να κάνει λόγο για τον ταχύτερο Mac που δημιούργησαν ποτέ. Ποιός θα έλεγε όχι σε νέα Mac Pro και MacBook Pro, ε;

Film rentals in the US will be soon be available from iTunes. Apple is expected to launch the service, which will complement its current download-to-own offering, at this year's Macworld Expo in San Francisco, which starts tomorrow.


Titles will be downloaded from the iTunes store for $3.99 and consumers will have 24 hours to watch each one. The films can be played on iPods, iPhones, computers and Apple TV. The service will rival those currently available in the US including Amazon's Unbox, which lets consumers download a film and watch it within a specified period. Once the period is up, the movie is deleted from the viewer's playlist.

Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox and Walt Disney are among the Hollywood studios that are believed to have signed deals with Apple. According to Richard Greenfield, an analyst at Pali Capital, once a couple of studios sign up, it will only be a matter of minutes before others come on board too.

Wired claims last-minute "MacBook Air" details
An alleged insider at a third-party vendor is said by Wired to have fresh details on the rumored 'MacBook Air' sub-notebook just hours before its unveiling at Macworld San Francisco.

In its description, the magazine's Gadget Lab blog describes the lightweight notebook as teardrop-shaped when shut, thickening towards the hinge of the system but thinning near the edges -- and remaining "unbelievably" thin overall, according to the source.

The system, according to the source, shares the same aluminum and glass construction of the iMac with black accents on a silver frame.

The tip also suggests that the MacBook Air name refers not just to the computer's slender design but also an apparent dependence on wireless: it may drop Ethernet altogether in favor of Wi-Fi or "other wireless technology," the purported source said, though it's unknown whether this would involve AT&T's 3G (third-generation) service, Sprint's Intel-derived WiMAX network, or any service at all.

Multi-touch is also suggested for the display, though this too remains a mystery.
