The memristor was predicted and described in 1971 by Leon Chua of UC Berkeley, in a paper in IEEE Transactions on Circuit Theory.

For 37 years, the memristor was a hypothetical device, with no known physical examples. In April 2008, a physical implementation of a memristor was reported in Nature by a team of researchers at HP Labs (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v4 ... 06932.html)
