Two Ph.D. positions in Software Architecture - University of Groningen,
The Netherlands
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

About the research group
------------------------
The Software Engineering & Architecture (SEARCH) unit at the University
of Groningen is one of the leading research groups in the field of
software architecture. The group aims to improve the ways we architect
industrial software-intensive systems that meet quality standards. The
group carries out joint research projects with universities, research
institutes, and industrial partners, thus combining academic know-how
with industrial practice. The research topics of the SEARCH group
include software architecture design and evaluation, architectural
knowledge management, architectural patterns and pattern languages,
architecture-centric evolution, service-oriented architectures and
software product lines.
For more information please check the following websites:

us (paris@cs.rug.nl).

Project description:
--------------------
The 2 PhD positions will be part of an ITEA2 project entitled PROMES -
Process Models for Engineering of Embedded Systems.
The development processes for Embedded Systems have to ensure
multi-disciplinary, multi-site and multi-organisation development at the
same time. Furthermore, new engineering technologies have come up such
as model-driven development or product line engineering which have put
new challenges on processes as they rely on multiple integrated
lifecycles. The demands on processes and the effort for defining and
adapting a process to the specifics of a project thus have increased
significantly. Yet, existing models have turned out to be insufficient
as they do not take these factors adequately into account.
The project will develop new mechanisms for defining and handling
process components (process assets) while integrating mechanical,
electronics, and software engineering disciplines. Special consideration
will be given to the ability to compose processes, to manage their
interfaces (import / export), and to support compliance with reference
processes and models. The project goes beyond existing work by covering
a larger range of processes at a higher level of detail and by providing
a higher level of process customizability. The team of the University of
Groningen will focus on the architecting part of the envisaged process
framework and will work closely with the Dutch industrial partners.

How to apply
-------------
The positions are immediately available and will be open until suitable
candidates are found. Applications for the positions should include a
Curriculum Vita (name, address, degree(s), date, etc.) and the names and
email addresses of three professional references. Please send your
application to the following contact person. Please feel free to make
informal requests about the position.

Prof.dr.ir. Paris Avgeriou (http://www.cs.rug.nl/~paris/)
Head of the Software Engineering & Architecture (SEARCH) group
