Pirate Bay : Let’s Encrypt The Entire Internet! xD

NewTeeVee has reported that the popular torrent site The Pirate Bay is working on an encryption technology to protect the all Internet traffic from prying eyes. The name of the project is “Transparent end-to-end encryption for the Internets,” or IPETEE for short. The Pirate Bay aims to provide encryption at the network level and not the application level, so that all data exchanged would be encrypted regardless of its nature.

The Pirate Bay have been in the news a lot for privacy concerns, specially highlighted by the fact that European politicians have been talking about moving to DMCA like copyright laws in Europe, which were authorized in the form of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive.

Neij promises that his new encryption scheme will be ready before the law takes effect next January.

IPETEE will likely be implemented as an add-on to operating systems like Windows and OS X. It will essentially do its work in the background, handling all incoming and outgoing IP traffic without any further interference from the user.

Fredrik Neij is the co founder of The Pirate Bay is keen on getting this one project out of the door soon, unlike The Video Bay, PlayBle and a new and secure P2P protocol yet to be launched. IPETEE is the most ambitious of all these, and would definitely become a standard in the industry once properly launched. This would also help users who have privacy concerns over the Internet, with fears of ISP’s and government agencies snooping over their data against their will. This will also be a sign of relief for consumers who are fed up with the torrent throttling issues by their ISPs. Another fact of concern is whether governments would really want such a thing to be used and implemented by average people as they want to have full capability to snoop over Internet traffic. We think they wouldn’t want this to happen and as such IPETEE will face much opposition if it sees the light of the day. Only time will tell, if The Pirate Bay succeeds with this mighty project.

Με τον έναν ή τον άλλο τρόπο καταφέρνουν να είναι πάντα στο προσκήνιο, σε αντίθεση με το mininova που παρόλο που έχει μεγαλύτερη βάση δεδομένων δεν πολυακούγεται. Αλήθεια το mininiva που εδρεύει;
Πάντως αυτό το εγχείρημα είναι πραγματικά μεγάλο και σίγουρα θα προκαλέσει πολλούς πονοκεφάλους και...αντιδράσεις.

Από αυτά που μου έκαναν πολύ εντύπωση είναι το αντεπιχείρημα για μια αγγλική εταιρεία που κατηγορεί το Pirate Bay που δεν είναι στην αγγλική επικράτεια : Δηλαδή αν στην Αγγλία υποθετικά ήταν παράνομα τα Websites γενικά , σας φαίνεται λογικό να μας μηνύσετε επειδή έχουμε Website στην Σουϊδία.. ?

Κάτι επίσης πολύ αστείο που διάβασα σήμερα ..
Είναι μια ψευτό "οργάνωση συγγραφέων" ( κυριολεκτικά ψεύτικη , την έφτιαξαν για να οργανώνουν τέτοια πράγματα ) και πήγαν και διαμαρτύρηθηκαν έξω από την βιβλιοθήκη της Νέας Υόρκης γιατί και καλά καταπατούσε τα πνευματικά τους δικαιώματα μοιράζοντας το έργο τους χωρίς να αμοίβονται για κάθε βιβλίο..!

Υ.Γ. Αν και λογικα θα το ακουσατε, στην νεα εκδοση του utorrent θα χρησιμοποιειται "εκ default" το νεο σχετικα πρωτοκολλο uTP με καλυτερο ελεγχο αποστολης πακετων απο το UDP αλλα βασισμενο σε αυτο.

Τα ψηφιακά μέσα και η δικτύωση οδηγούν σε αναθεώρηση (ή περιθωριοποίηση) πολλών κομματιών της νομοθεσίας, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των πατεντών και του copyright με τη μορφή που είναι σήμερα, δηλαδή βλακείες όπως η DMCA που επηρεάζει εκατομμύρια ανθρώπους.

Με αυτά που είπε ο Mikem θυμάμαι τώρα την ολη υπόθεση με τα φρουτάκια..
Στην Ελλάδα η κατάσταση είναι εντελώς τραγική .. Κυρίως λόγω της μη ύπαρξης μέτρου στην άσκηση της εξουσίας..
Δυστυχώς οι πλειονότητα των βουλευτών , ( όπως και των περισσότερων Ελλήνων βέβαια ) φέρει γνώμη και νομοθετεί για πράγματα για τα οποία δεν έχει ιδέα.. Και δεν υπάρχει κανένα feedback.. Αφού το λέει ο νόμος πάνε και μαζεύουν τα PC του Internet Cafe για να μην παίζονται παράνομα παίγνια..

Δηλαδή πραγματικά οι βουλευτές μας είναι ικανοί να απαγορεύσουν το Linux ξέρωγώ αν βγεί κάποιος και τους πεί οτι με αυτό γίνονται host τα παράνομα παιχνίδια..!

The Pirate Bay sold for £4.7m

The Pirate Bay's founders are set for a multi-million windfall after selling the controversial file-sharing website for 60m Swedish crowns (£4.7m).

In April, the four Swedish men behind the website were sentenced to a year in jail and ordered to pay $3.6m (£2.2m) after they were found guilty of providing a conduit for consumers to breach copyright on hundreds of millions of songs and movies. The men - Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm and Carl Lundström - are appealing the sentence.

The buyer, Swedish software company Global Gaming Factory X, said it recognised that The Pirate Bay, one of the world's largest file-sharing websites, must comply with international copyright laws.

Global Gaming said the website needs a new business model which "satisfies the requirements and needs of all parties, content providers, broadband operators, end users, and the judiciary".

Hans Pandeya, chief executive, said: "We would like to introduce models which entail that content providers and copyright owners get paid for content that is downloaded via the site."

The Pirate Bay's founders said the site was being sold for a "great bit underneath its value" but the sale is essential to secure the website's future.

"On the internet, stuff dies if it doesn't evolve. We don't want that to happen," they said in a statement.

"It's time to invite more people into the project, in a way that is secure and safe for everybody. We need that, or the site will die. And letting TPB die is the last thing that is allowed to happen!

"TPB is being sold for a great bit underneath it's value if the money would be the interesting part. It's not. The interesting thing is that the right people with the right attitude and possibilities keep running the site."

The founders said the profit form sale will fund a foundation to promote free speech and freedom of information on the internet.

The Pirate Bay has also announced plans to launch a video streaming service that is billed as a rival to YouTube. The site, dubbed The Video Bay, is still in beta, and will give web users access to thousands of clips, including music videos, many of which currently infringe copyright laws. It is not yet known how the deal with Global Gaming will affect this project. A spokesman for the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry said it was monitoring developments, but had no further comment to make about The Pirate Bay’s latest move.
