Σαν τι δηλαδή? Η Microsoft εδώ και χρόνια βγάζει Office και για Μac πλατφόρμες, απλά το '08 θα κυκλόφορήσει νέα έκδοση και για τα Mac που θα παρέχει όλες τις λειτουργίες που παρέχει και το Office 2007 για Windows.

Δεν έχω πρόβλημα μου αρέσει (αλλά δεν μπορούσα και να μην το πω...)

Η αλήθεια έίναι ότι δεν μου θυμίζουν κάτι. Βοήθα με λίγο!!!
Στα Vista βρίσκω αρκετές ομοιότητες και "αντιγραφές" (φιλικά πάντα ) με κάποιο άλλο λειτουργικό σύστημα!! (Χεχε ποιο άραγε?????). Αλλά το νέο Office 2007 για Windows μου φαίνεται αρκετά διαφορετικό από ότι άλλο έχω δει!

Τεσπα το θέμα μας είναι ότι το 2008 θα βγεί το αντίστοιχο προιόν από την Microsoft και για Mac.

Microsoft highlights Office 2008 origins in new sneak peek

Microsoft's latest update on Office 2008 for Mac is its largest yet, offering a sweeping overview of the new features and also underscoring the roots of the completely new interface.

The software developer's official sneak peak website provides visitors with a visual explanation of each feature in the new Office suite, which will represents the first major change to the Mac version of the software in roughly four years.

Features common to every program, such as the My Day scheduling tool, are highlighted alongside changes to individual programs such as Word's Publishing Layout View for creating newsletters and flyers.

But while the web page supplies the basic details, the company explained in its Mac Mojo blog that the path taken to reach this final look and feel was a complex one that sought to borrow from Office 2007 for Windows without diluting the Mac interface.

The Windows team's core achievement for Office 2007 was the Ribbon interface at the top of the screen, said Microsoft Mac Business Unit researcher Nadyne Mielke. The system completely scraps the traditional menu system in favor of a tabbed strip with dynamic buttons that change depending on the immediate context. These buttons are highly visual and are meant to help users find features that would have otherwise been buried layers deep.

"A feature can be the coolest feature in the world, but its usefulness is degraded if no-one can find it," Mielke said. "One of the most compelling results [of the Ribbon] was that their users liked seeing graphical representations of actions because it helped them visualise what they were about to do."

This interface was helpful but not necessarily what Mac users would expect, however. Since the Mac OS X interface dictates a menu bar with certain fixed categories, copying the Ribbon wholesale simply wasn't going to work, according to the Microsoft blogger.

The result was the Elements Gallery: the new layout incorporates the tabs and button strips of the Windows interface, but has a common set of buttons and still holds the traditional Mac menu bar. Users can see the obvious actions that can be taken at a given moment, such as changing a PowerPoint slide transition, but can always find certain common actions (such as creating a text box) in the same location.

After some initial adjustment, the Elements Gallery proved to be a useful change to the design and shifted from just a change applied in Word to the guiding principle for the entire Office package. The control method now only requires "finishing touches" and will be ready for the final release sometime in early 2008.

"It's almost time to let our software out into the wild," Mielke said.

Ανακοινώθηκαν και επίσημα οι εκδόσεις του Office 2008 για τους φίλους των Mac. To νεο office δεν θα λειτουργεί σε περιβάλλον windows. Έτσι λοιπόν οι εκδόσεις αυτές θα είναι οι ακόλουθες.

> Microsoft Office 2008 Special Edition, η οποία περιλαμβάνει όλες τις εφαρμογές της αρχικής σουίτας και επιπλέον την πλήρη έκδοση του Microsoft Expression Media με τιμή $499,95.

The MacBU Middle Ground

The challenge to the MacBU was to fit Office 2008 into the modern Mac desktop while incorporating as much similarity with Office for Windows as possible, all while Apple and Microsoft are both working to differentiate themselves in different directions: Apple with simplicity that builds on what users already know, and Microsoft with a complex and flashy information overload that aspires to be completely different in each release.

Previous versions of Mac Office catered to the demand for simplicity on the Mac side with drag and drop installation. After you drag the Office 2004 folder into Applications and launch an app, it would run through an initial mini install which copied in Microsoft fonts and other required support files. In Office 2008, this is all gone. It now requires a full standard install. In comparison, while many simple Mac apps support drag and drop installation, even Apple's iLife and iWork suites run through a standard install process.

Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday it has wrapped up development of Office 2008 for Mac, the first overhaul to its productivity software suite for Apple's Mac users in nearly half a decade.

The Redmond, Wash.-based software giant said the frozen code will be released to manufacturing later this evening, ahead of the software's official launch next month at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

Microsoft has announced pricing and availability of its latest Mac-compatible version of its Office suite of business tools. Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac is available from Janaury 15 for £350 (including VAT) for the Standard Edition. A Home and Student Edition of Office 2008 for Mac costs £99.


Microsoft clams that Office 2008 for Mac is "more powerful and easier to use", including a simplified new user interface and new tools such as Document Elements.

Office 2008 for Mac uses the same Open XML file formats, Office Art graphics engine, and other features as the Windows-based Office 2007. There are also "hundreds" of new customisable templates and suite-wide themes.



Word 2008 features a Publishing Layout View workspace that lets users create "incredibly rich documents" such as newsletters and brochures "without a degree in design".

Excel 2008 has "vastly improved" charting capabilities to help users create and manipulate charts and graphs "easier than ever before".

PowerPoint 2008 includes SmartArt graphics that "let you bring a blank slide to life with stunning charts, maps, and diagrams at the click of a button".

Email client Entourage 2008 is "the hub of Office 2008", and features My Day to keep the user connected with schedules, tasks, and priorities in a clear, standalone interface. Project Center helps users keep their project details under control.

Office 2008 for Mac requires Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later, a PowerPC G4 or G5 or Intel Core duo processor, 512MB of RAM and 1.5GB free hard-disk space.
