Ο Steve Jobs ανακοίνωσε σήμερα την public beta του Safari Web Browser για Windows XP/Vista.

Apple kicked off WWDC with the release of a public beta of Safari 3.0; the finished version will be the bundled browser in Leopard when Mac OS X 10.5 ships in October. But Leopard isn’t the only OS that this Safari update will run on. Apple’s browser will be joining the ranks of iTunes and QuickTime to become a cross-platform app that runs on Windows as well. Rob Griffiths has a quick look at some of the more compelling new features in Safari 3.0.

Safari 3.0 beta hit with six vulnerabilities within hours after launch
Apple may have to start patching security holes in its new Safari browser sooner than expected: Security researchers already have discovered multiple Denial of Service (DoS) and remote execution exploits.

The first round of vulnerabilities were described on three security blogs, published by security experts Aviv Raff, David Maynor and Thor Larholm. The findings dent Apple’s claim that Safari 3.0 was “designed to be secure from day one.”

Safari for Windows downloads Top 1 million
More than 1 million copies of Apple Inc.'s Safari web browser for Windows were downloaded in its first two days of availability, the company said Thursday.
Earlier this week, Apple used its annual developers conference to introduce the Windows browser, a first for the Cupertino-based firm. It touted speed gains in excess of 200 percent when compared to Internet Explorer (IE), the flagship browser of long-time rival Microsoft.

Apple claims Safari 3 is the fastest browser running on Windows, rendering web pages up to twice as fast as IE 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2, based on the industry standard iBench tests.

The software has been available as a pre-release beta for Windows XP and Vista since Monday. Once downloaded, users will receive updates delivered through a Software Update mechanism. Apple issued the first such update on Wednesday, fixing "some early reported bugs."

Safari 3 for Windows requires Windows XP or Windows Vista, a minimum of 256 MB of memory and a system with at least a 500 MHz Intel Pentium processor.

Updated Safari for Windows improves security
Apple has released Safari Beta 3.0.1 for Windows, an update to their recently-introduced Web browser for Windows XP and Vista. The new version is available for download from Apple’s Web site or through the “Apple Software Update” application (bundled with QuickTime or iTunes for Windows).

Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced Safari for Windows near the end of his keynote presentation during this week’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, Calif. Apple is releasing Safari for Windows in the hope of growing its market share in the browser market. Some market research pegs Safari in third place behind Firefox, with only the Macintosh market using it.

Υπερβολές! Οι Macs δεν επιλέγουν FF αντί Safari! Είναι μακράν πολύ πιο ελαφρύς και stable από τον FF (στο ΜacOSX εννοώ φυσικά!)

Apple has posted a new beta build of its Safari Web browser for Mac OS X and Windows, Safari 3.0.2 beta. It’s available for download now.

Safari 3.0.2 for Mac OS X beta features several changes, including the latest security updates, improved stability, and improved WebKit support for Mail, iChat and Dashboard.

According to a security note offered by Apple, Safari Beta Update 3.0.2 incorporates the same WebCore and WebKit fixes that Apple published separately on Friday as Security Update 2007-006. Other improvements include a fix in both Mac OS X and Windows versions of Safari that corrects access control to window properties to prevent malicious Web sites from cross-site scripting.

A Windows-only issue has been addressed that could cause a Web page to change the contents of the address bar without loading the contents of the corresponding page.
